Method 1: Google Chrome

Someone said that Google Chrome is the best and fastest browser among all. And I always choose google chrome as the default web browser. How to save a .swf file in Google chrome?

  1. Right-click a blank area on the page and select View Page Source. Search for the flash animation. The easiest way to do this is to hit search for the file extension (usually .swf or .flv).
  2. Copy the partial URL of the flash file. This will usually be a long string of information separated by backslashes, contained within quotation marks, and ending in a flash file extension (ex. “content/dotcom/en/devnet/actionscript/etc.swf”). Select everything within the quotation marks (but not the quotation marks themselves) and copy.
  3. In a new window or tab, type the base URL of the page where you found the flash animation. If you found it on example.com, please type example.com. Do not hit Enter yet.
  4. Paste the partial URL taken from the flash animation to the end of the base URL and hit Enter. This will open the flash animation by itself.
  5. Go to Tools and select Save Page As. If your Google Chrome doesn’t display the traditional toolbar, the Tools button will appear in the top right-hand corner as a large wrench.


Method 2: Firefox

Also Firefox is my second web browser, because it owns so many powerful extensions, and a killer move would be for Google to support firefox extensions. How to download swf files with Firefox?

  1. Right-click a blank area on the page and select View Info.
  2. Navigate to the Media tab.
  3. Scroll through the list of media to find the flash animation. The “Type” column will help in many instances; flashes usually appear as “Embeds” or “Objects.”
  4. Click on the flash-animation file(s) and hit Save As.


Method 3: Internet Explorer
We will find IE in every PC. And sometimes I have to use IE for gov. website. How to download a .swf file with internet explorer?

  1. Go to Tools > Internet Options. If your Internet Explorer doesn’t display the traditional toolbar, the Tools button will appear in the top right-hand corner as a large cog.
  2. Under the General tab, find Browsing Information and click Settings.
  3. In the new dialog box that pops up, click View Files. This will take you to a list of temporary internet files.
  4. Scroll through the list of files to find the flash animation. It may help to click the Last Accessed column to sort the files chronologically.
  5. Right-click the file, hit Copy, and pastes it in the location where you would like to save it.
